  Rules of Prayer

A Suggested Rule of Prayer for Orthodox Christians

6:00 a.m. ( or upon rising)   Rising from sleep, I bow before You and worship You, O most Holy Trinity.  Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O God, through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us.

This is the day which the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

9:00 a.m.  O Lord, Who did send down Your Most Holy Spirit upon Your Apostles at the third hour, take Him not from us, O good One, but renew Him in us.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew me with a right spirit.  Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.

12 noon O Lord, Who at the sixth hour was crucified for our sake, forgive us, through Your great love for us.

Before Your cross, we bow down in worship, O Master, and Your Holy resurrection we glorify.

3:00 p.m.  O Lord, Who at the ninth hour did destroy the power of death by Your death, make us worthy to share in Your victory and eternal life.

I shall take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.  The Lord is my Light and my Salvation, of whom then shall I be afraid.

6:00 p.m.  Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this night without sin.  Blessed are You, O Lord, the God of our fathers, and praised and glorified be Your name forever.

Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your Word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation.

9:00 p.m.  Remember, O Lord, Your servants ( names ).  Grant us peace, prosperity, health and length of days, and answer all our prayers unto life everlasting.

Our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

Remember, O Lord, Your departed servants ( names ).  Grant them rest where there is neither sickness nor sorrow nor sighing, but life everlasting.

Their memory shall be from generation to generation.

12 midnight ( or when going to sleep )  Into Your hands I commend my spirit.

Grant that I may behold Your Kingdom all the days of my life.

Below is a list of prayers that can be used throughout the day.  Please click on the link that applies to you.
